There are certain occurrences that caused the great fight of World War One, and there are certain things that were effected after the war. Beginning with the causes, the main short term cause is the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Serbia. He and his wife were shot while touring Sarajevo, Bosnia. There are several long term causes which include; Militarism, their arms race. Alliances, the allies the countries had each other. Imperialism, the countries taking land by force. Nationalism, the belief each country had in themselves and significant individuals who helped lead the decision of war. The main effect the war had on the world was the loss of many soldiers. Over nine million soldiers were killed during the war. This took its toll on each countries population, families and birth rates. A positive effect was that the women had to take on jobs that were worked by men, which gained women more equal rights. Political effects include the separation of Austria- Hungary into lots of independent states, Russia and Germany having to give land to Poland, the Middle Eastern countries being put under control by Great Britain and France, and then the Ottoman Empire became Turkey. World War One also dramatically effected the economic side of things; Germany and Great Britain spent 60% of their money on the war and weapons, countries then had to print more money and raise taxes in order to keep fighting which then led to inflation.
