What is the Broadening Horizons program?
Broadening Horizons is a program that Trafalgar High School has been involved in since 2014. It is an educational opportunity that allows students to connect with outside organisations to solve real world issues. Different schools have partnered up with different organisations. At THS our partnership is with the CFA. Over the years students have engaged in a range of different activities and projects with the CFA. At a year 7, students learn about the organisation and develop collaboration and critical thinking skills. At a year 8 level they become consultants for the CFA and solve a genuine problem of practice that the organisation is trying to deal with. In the past a number of problems have been put to the year 8 students. In 2015, students were asked to develop a more comprehensive bushfire plan for the township of Trafalgar. In 2017, students were asked to investigate the problem of recruitment and develop a marketing plan to increase participation particularly with the younger generations. Every year the brief is different, which makes it the most exciting school project ever!
